Syllabus and Classroom Rules
Computer Technology is designed to provide hands-on use of Computer Equipment, the Internet, Keyboarding, Word Processing, Graphic Design, Presentation and Multimedia software. Students will understand basic operations and concepts of computer technology. This course consists of hands-on instruction and emphasizes a project-based approach in which students create products and incorporate ideas across the content areas. Students will learn computer application skills, keyboarding skills, employability skills to organize information, initiate communications, solve problems and make decisions. Students will be exposed to a variety of technologies that stimulate creativity and innovation while fostering digital competence. The course curriculum supports:

Be Respectful:
Use of cell phones and other electronic devices in this class or anywhere on school grounds during instructional time is prohibited. If you have these devices out during class, they will be confiscated by the teacher and turned over to the office or public safety.
Classroom Disruption Discipline Plan and Consequences for Code of Conduct Violations:
1st Infraction – Verbal Warning
2nd Infraction –Parent notified by phone or email
3rd Infraction – Referral to Office
Note: Steps 1-3 may be skipped if the infraction is severe enough (at teacher’s discretion).
Internet/Games/Music/Video Discipline Plan: Only go to Internet Web sites, to play educational games when instructed by the teacher. You are in this class to learn how to use computers to be productive in the work and academic world. If you are on non-assigned Web sites, games, music, or videos; the following special discipline plan applies:
1st Infraction – Loss of Computer Privileges Resulting in a Zero and Phone Call to Parent/Guardian
2nd Infraction – Referral to Office
Tardy to Class:
Students need a pass to be admitted tardy to class. Continued tardiness will require a conference with a parent or guardian.
Turning in Assignments:
Ms. Butler will let you know what assignments to print. Place your printed assignments in the completed work basket. Any work done in class should be submitted before you leave the classroom. Once you leave the classroom, work is considered late and will not be accepted.
Returning Assignments to Students:
Assignments will be returned to students in a timely manner. Usually within 3 days of submission. Checked work will be placed in the basket labeled with your class period. Check your basket weekly.
Student Responsibilities after an Absence:
When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to check Ms. Butler's website for an assignment. You are able to make up an assignment and submit it within 3 days of your return with a note from a parent/guardian or doctor. Remember you have access to your assignments when not in school, so don’t wait for me to tell you what you were supposed to do. All assignments are usually emailed to you.
Class work and Homework Procedure (late, missing, or incomplete assignments):
If a student is absent, it is the student’s responsibility to check Ms. Butler's website and make sure any missed assignments are graded and/or printed and handed in. Also, if the student is not able to make up assignments during class time, the student needs to be prepared to spend time in a computer lab or the Library to make up any missing assignments. Students will be responsible for emailing some of their work to the teacher by the given due date.
Any homework given should be completed at home and not during my class time. Homework should be submitted by the due date that was given. It is the student’s responsibility to make their parents aware of any assignment that they need to go to the library to complete. Not having ink in the home printer will not excuse any homework that is to be turned in. Please make your parents aware that ink is needed before your assignment is due. Students are expected to work on class work assignments in class. This allows the teacher the opportunity to help struggling students and for students to ask additional questions that may not have been addressed during the class discussion.
All assignments must be turned in on time . Late assignments are discouraged and will be graded as such. Each late assignment will receive a 10% PER DAY deduction from the maximum points available, prior to the grading of the assignment. Example, points earned 100x10%=90 point/percent maximum after day 1; points earned 100x20%=80 point/percent maximum after day 2; 100x30%=70 point/percent maximum after day 3 and so on.

Procedure for Entering the Computer Classroom:
- Do not enter the classroom if the teacher is not in the room.
- Enter the classroom quietly and go directly to your assigned seat where you should be sitting before class begins.
- Look and listen for instructions.
- If you have a question or need help, raise your hand.
- Sit facing your computer with your feet and legs under your desk.
- Keep your hands to yourself and do not play with other students’ computers.
- During instruction and guided practice from Ms. Butler:
- If you have a question or need help, raise your hand to be addressed.
- Pay attention and follow along.

Procedure for Exiting the Classroom:
- Log off all programs and accounts before leaving your seat.
- Push your chair under your table.
- Remain by your computer until you are dismissed.
- Pick up any items that are yours and take them with you, including assignments that have been handed back.
- Throw away garbage at the end of class on your way out the door.
Be Respectful:
- Listen to the teacher and do not talk when the teacher is talking.
- Raise your hand to answer questions.
- Follow all written and verbal directions given by the teacher.
- Treat others as they want to be treated and as you would like to be treated.
- Do not log on as another student or give your password to another student.
- No printing unless assigned or approved by the teacher.
- Do not change the settings on the computers such as backgrounds and screen savers.
- No gum, food (including candy) or drinks allowed in the classroom.
- Go to the restroom before you enter the classroom. Do not ask during instruction.
- Students should be respectful of teacher’s desk area.
- You will be assigned a workstation. It is your responsibility to inspect the workstation and equipment at the beginning of each class period. If the workstation or equipment is damaged in any way, you must report it at the beginning of the class.
- Students must follow the Student Handbook provided by DPS and follow all rules concerning usage of computers and the Internet.
